We are very excited and happy to be active in the community of Lebanon, offering programs to both adults and children. Our First Lady Betty J. Bennett is the director of the Lebanon Community Outreach Services and offering programs since 1996. She is responsible for the L.C.O.S. gaining Non-Profit Organization status and starting the Free Summer Food Program.
What We Do
In the summer we offer the FREE Summer Food Program and Camp. Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-1:00p.m. Breakfast is served at 9:00 a.m. - 10 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30p.m.-12:30 p.m. For children ages 0-18. We plan Educational & Recreational Field Trips for the youth. We also offer after-school activities. This program takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30p.m.-5:00p.m. This after-school program is designed for children grades K-4 focusing on reading. There will be one-on-one and group reading. There are various programs being planned for the youth right now. At this time many volunteers are needed to help these programs function. Volunteers are needed immediately for the after school program scheduled to begin in August at the Pentecostal Power Church, 208 N. Madison, Lebanon, IL.
We are searching for good quality volunteers willing to help children understand the importance of obtaining a good education. Volunteers are needed to directly work with the students, monitor the students, and help serve snacks.
We are a non-profit organization. Helping us by donating money, school supplies, cleaning supplies, and/or food for the snacks is greatly appreciated.
Our Mission Statement
We believe that our schools are doing a great job with the students. But more help is very useful. We want the children to have special time to spend with one person helping to increase their skills. Teachers may not always have the time to spend with one child when there is a classroom full of students needing help as well. So we want to give the children more opportunities and also lighten the load of the teachers. We believe this motto, "Many hands make lighter work."
This is a crucial time in a child's life to develop good reading skills. Statistics show that children who have low reading skills by third grade will have a greater chance of going to prison later in life. We, want to help our children succeed in life and dispel this statistic.
